You Take the Cake

Hello everyone!! I am sorry that I have been MIA but the DS is still sick. He is getting better but still has a stuffy nose. I did get some time last night to stamp and play with my new MFT "You Take the Cake" set. I love it!! Its so fun to color in all her stamp sets. For this one I colored her in with my Prisma colors and added some crystal effects to the Chocolate frosting. YUMMY!! The card stock is SU Celery, Banana, Marigold, Navy, VV, and DP. The ribbon is May Arts and the brads are SU. I did some paper piercing and some sponging to add dimension. The card sketch is from CPS. I love visiting this blog because they always give me cool ideas on card layouts. The are always fresh and new. Have a great weekend!! Hugs Ana

BTW if any of you have any suggestions on how to give my DS his medicine without him spitting it ALL out PLEASE let me know. I got one suggestion of using peanut butter. I will try that but I could use any and ALL advice.

This is a great card, love that stamp set and what you did with it. I just recently bought this set and have to get it out and use it.

The card is so cute! I love the coloring job you did!
And for the medicine, I hate to say it, but I've had to stick the medicine dropper (because that works way better than the medicine spoon) in the back of his mouth, and hold his nose on rare occasion. It makes me feel like an old fashioned nurse, but it works. HTH! And hope he feels better soon!

Great card as always and the colors are perfect.

With my oldest I had to resort to the pin down on the ground method, plug the nose and give the medicine
right before he needed to take a breath. You know that way he would have so swallow it to be able to take a breath. Sometimes even that didn't work.
I also tried to disguise it in some sweet juice.
My other kids love taking medicine. I don't know which is worse!
Good luck and I hope the little guy feels better soon.

My 2 yr old grandson needed to take something for his cold/bad cough. We bought the strips that dissolve on the tongue. They do dissolve fast, but somehow he would try to take them out also. So we would pour about 2 inches of apple juice and dissolve the strip in it. Let it sit in the fridge for awhile and all particles do dissolve. Then we would take it out to drink (he thought it was ours) and he wanted to drink "our" juice. It worked everytime and he wasn't the wiser. No crying with this method.

GREAT card! Love it as usual you are the best.

As far as medicine goes, my son had a liver transplant as an infant and he had to take up to 10 different meds a day at one point in his life. The nurses actually "trained" me on how to use a syringe and hold him in a "comfortable" headlock on my lap. It sounds terrible but was painless and fast....and fast is what I needed. Lay him across your lap with his head on the left of your lap. Place his right arm tucked under your left arm and craddle his head in the crook of your left arm. Use your left hand to come around and hold his other free arm to keep him from grabbing the meds. Draw him close to your chest and immoblize his head from being able to turn back and forth.

So the trick with a syringe (that you can get from the pharmacist) or a dropper is to place it on the side of his mouth and all the way in the back where the molars are locate...right where the two jaw bones meet in the back. Squirt it in area and then hold his mouth drawing his cheeks together until he swallows. (hope that makes sense)

This area works because they can't get their tounge back that far to push the liquid forward to spit it out and they just have to swallow it.

Sorry to be so long winded....I feel your frustration as I have had to dispense lots of meds in my time. BTW, my son is 15 now and on pills...thank God! It takes practice but this really does work. Good luck!

When I said dropper, I meant syringe. I used a dropper when he was younger, but the syringe is MUCH more effective and accurate. Just wanted to save you time of trial and error!
And we love ya too! :)
